    Default banned importing surplus ammo?

while tring to find bulk 5.56 at the gun show i was told our government banned imports of all millitary surplus ammo about 2 months ago. is there any truth to this?

i left the show with no ammo as no one had any for sale. are the working on banning all military ammo?

if this is true what was banned and what is still comming in? did they ban 7.62x34, 308, 7.62x54? what about 5.45?

the guy said Wolf was still ok because its not considered surplus but i don't want to shoot that junk as i already have had a stuck case with it.

It's true they did ban it. I found out when I got my registration packets for the MG shoots this year. Greg from Denver Bullets always advertises for ammo and his add he mentioned the ban.

I don't know of a link but this is exactly the note Greg put in his ammo price list.

Note due to the recent events:
    1. Import ban on surplus ammunition.
    2. Talon MFG shut down.
    3. Continued component price increases.
Above prices may not be valid in April and May. Call and order EARLY.
The dems are in power and this is what happens. I don't know how it happend as I never heard anything about it until I seen Gregs price lists.

something tells me he was trying to sell more ammo....

we would have heard this somewhere, like all the major surplus suppliers as they quadruple the prices of remaining stock.

Default Re: Ban on imported ammo...urban legend

    Guys:
I have heard this rumor for months and also had the opportunity to see the flyer that Denver Bullet is circulating. I contacted a number of major ammo suppliers and importers and this rumor is an urban legend. I have contacted a friend in the State Department and he knows of no such ban. Maybe some are using it to raise the prices on their ammo...I couldn't say?

Most of you have shot Wolf or Bakiel. They are importing plenty of it. It is basically surplus. Ammo is coming in from Russia and is being sold by AIM and R Guns. You go to the Talon website (www.talonammo.com) and contact their sales department and ask if they are closed. Last time I spoke with them, they were still demilling ammunition.

There is a shortage of certain military calibers due to the fact, there is darn near a war going in most parts of the world...except maybe France. There is such a shortage of 5.56 and .308, our military is training with foreign ammo. We could feel in the near future sticker shock on some calibers (.308 noteably), simply from the fact that some of the surplus calibers will have been used up and we will have to purchase newly manufactured surplus ammunition. I'm sure it wont be cheap.

With the Dems just getting control, and as closely as they are being watched, I just couldn’t see something like this passing without being detected.

I wonder if this is some sort of ruse, like the UK 'knife amnesty' program :?:
