    Default I need a favor

    For those of you with some sort of red dot optic on your rifle, I need a measurement. I need to know the distance from the top of the picatinny rail to the center of the lens on the optic.

    What I am trying to do is find an optic/mount set up that will give me absolute cowitness when mounted on top of my VLTOR CASV-M handguard. I know Eotechs are out of the question. I am hoping an Aimpoint in a low mount of some sort might work.

    I need the distance from the top of the rail to the center of the optic to be about 15/16" to maybe 1". If your set up gives you absolute or lower 1/3 cowitness on a standard flat top upper it is going to be way too tall for my needs.

    Thank you all in advance.

    Definitely helps, Mike.

    Looks like that micro would actually be a little short. Looks like about 3/4" or so to the center of the lens. Maybe I could find a mount for it that raised it about 1/4".

    That's exactly the kind of measurement I am looking for. Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

    See if these help Ray. If you want, you are welcome to stop by and measure it for yourself. Just give me a call or PM and let me know when.

    Thanks, Chuck.

    That one is definitely too high for my application. I wonder what type of "low" mount they make for it? Might have to do some research.

    If you use a micro or clone that has a removable base I have these little mounts with spacers that came off with my VORTEX sparc. They are not quick release though, but the smallest one might give you that height you need combined with a micro or clone. I am not going to use them.

    Your welcome to them. Well maybe a beer or something?

    Better one of the smaller mount showing height;

    Thanks, Skully. I might take you up on those. I have a feeling I am going to have to buy an optic of some sort and then play around with different mounts until I find one that works.

    Just let me know, they are not going anywhere. I found with my Trijicon reflex on top of the VLTOR it it is not quite 1/3 co witness and that cool triangle dot blocks out the front sight and can barely see through the back so I did a ARMS QR.

    If you use the MICRO it is too low like the photo from Islandermyk above you just need a hair height added. The smallest mount is about 1/16th and with the spacer would raise about 1/4.

    If you don't want to spend a fortune on a red dot pick up a PA Micro clone, they have removable bases and use all the MICRO dot mounts.

    Hey Ray,

    Not sure if this helps but I have a Aimpoint ML2 and I get perfect cowitness with my iron site (acutally the site I bought from you). It's 1.5" to center.
