Practice avoiding a gunfight. Then practice praying at combat speed. The goal to strive for is to be able to recite the Lord's Prayer under fire without interrupting it with "OH SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT!!!!!"

In all seriousness though, Practice shooting and MOVING. Moving is paramount. I would venture to say that at urban distances, movement is more important than fine-tuned shooting skills. If you have family members who will be armed as well, learn and practice SAFE buddy team movements with them as well. Practice moving effectively in the types of environment you will likely be in. Shooting and moving in an urban area can be much different than buddy movement in an open field. Remember, Death of your adversary isn't usually the MAIN objective (If youre a good guy). Getting yourself and your family out of harm's way IS.

This all of course, is alot more time consuming than just going to the range and running a couple firing drills.

Hope this helps.
