    Coupling straps together is scary just for what youve seen now. 2 solid point, and one strap, strap itself should fail, just falls to the ground, much like cutting winch rope. Clevis etc connecting 2, can be very scary.

    FWIW, done exactly what you are talking about, with dropping trees, works well usually. Just have the clevis close to the tree trunk and its much safer.

    Exactly. And put it closer to what you are pulling. That way it something snaps, it is longer than half-way for the strap/chain/cable to get back to you.


    Or use synthetic line.

    was recovering a M911 (Osh Kosk) from a lake in Ft Bragg that has been singing all night.

    the cable popped and fell 3 trees and a Duece and a half...

    When I was in the Navy. I seen a 3 inch mooring line stretch to about half its size. I was hiding behind the gun mount.
