Coming from the [rock]crawling world... tow straps/cables can kill. Make sure people are behind decent sized trees and chit or at a safe distance if you need to pull or winch. It helps of you drape a heavy coat over the line, absorbs the shock when it snaps.
I've seen a tow strap snap at the rear vehicle, shoot forwards and the hook at the end end up in the passenger seat of the front vehicle.
