That still doesn't get them to your TV in the living room ... but you can set up the torrented video files on your computer, install a Plex server there and then you can watch them via a Roku on the TV.
My problem with Plex is that all my computers are either pre Intel Macs or Linux machines (and Plex for Linux sucks). I need to build a little Windows box so I can set up a Plex server on it ... that or just suck it up and buy a newer Mac (since Plex will only install on Intel Macs).

Sure it does. I have three Xbox 360's as front end devices and use Windows Media Center for ALL of our TV viewing. Primary PC is Windows 7 with TONS of storage space (many TB) to feed the extenders. We use tuner cards for live TV and DVRing and then torrents for downloading TV shows, movies and pay-per-view events and then we can watch them from any display in our house.

If you didn't understand any of that it's probably not the right setup for you as it's not the most user friendly way to go about things and requires some tech savvy to make it all jive properly.
Edit: If you want to know more you need a Windows 7 machine (Win8 will do even more) with plenty of available storage running some sort of tuner card or tuner card device (Ceton is a popular internal solution and for an external device I use SiliconDust's HD HomeRun Prime x2 as my solution) at least one Xbox as a media extender at your viewing location, a gigabit network and a few other little odds and ends to make it all work. If you start researching all those items along with some of the keywords I posted in that post you quoted you will find the wormhole you need to head down as far as research goes. It's not a simple plug n play solution that also requires occasional ongoing support is why it's not for everyone. It can do more and save money but for one person but for the next person it could just be a wasted investment and the source of days or weeks of frustration. Heck, just dealing with your cable company on propagating the tuner card(s) for use can be mind numbing since their tech support doesn't even know how to make things work properly most of the time. Chances are if you didn't understand what I said you may be more frustrated by this solution than aided.

I already had them since I was a gamer in a former life (haven't had the time to play a game for months) so in my instance it was a zero cost for me which is even less than Roku and I like the layout better. WMC is amazing for all of our needs and I prefer having the same GUI for all of our needs (live TV, DVR, streaming movies from a PC) as it's easier for my wife and our guests. When we went to TX our house sitter had two 50" TVs and one 100" TV to use to watch all her TV or choose from hundreds of HD movies all with the same harmony remote & same GUI so it made it simple for anyone to sit down and start using regardless of what she wants to watch. No need for multiple devices or sets of rules on how to watch different sources. I love this setup and it saves me about $70/mo on DVR equipment that we used to pay to Comcast every month for three HD DVRs. Now we pay $2/mo for the 2nd tuner card and the first one is free. 6 tuners and all the features we used to have plus many more for only $2 a month? Heck yes!

That's a lot of info! But, I have one of those Blu-Ray players with all the built-in streaming/online services and a large HD connected to my DVR. If it's something I need to stream, I just stream it through the Blu-Ray and record it and save it to the HD if it's something from the sat that I want to keep.
I really don't need more than that (hell...I really don't need that) because I watch very little TV anyway.
