Default Target shooting on your own land??

Can anyone tell me the laws about this? My parents might be purchasing a house outside of Windsor with 40 acres of land mostly covered in trees. The closest neighborhood is a good 200 yards past the end of the property line. To me it seems fine to shoot out there with a proper backstop but I don't know where to find the laws on this.

What I've "heard" is a minumum of 15 acres, and the bullets can't leave your property. So, some big dirt berms and you should be GTG! Better ask the local Sheriff's Office to be sure.

Well, I am not familiar with the Colorado law on such a matter but I also have about 35 acres of mostly trees, hills, cactus, rocks etc., well out of town and I have been shooting on my property since about 1995 when I moved out here from that shit hole known as the State of Illinois. Out here we have covenants covering a few things and one of the very few "restrictions/suggestions" is that no one is allowed to do or have things that will annoy fellow neighbors. However, almost all of my neighbors have firearms and I have yet to hear ANY complaint about my shooting. Of course, I rarely ever shoot anymore and if/when I do, it would be very late morning and early/late afternoon times so as to not be bugging or waking anyone up with the sound of gun fire, (probably considered noise to any non-shooters).
If I do/did ever receive a complaint, I'd sure politely/diplomatically talk with the complainant and I'm sure everything would be just fine from that time on.
Will be interesting to see what BrokenScout will add to this!

My Brother in law had rented a place in hudson with about 40 acres and never had any issues. I would say have a nice big back drop pointed away from any houses and you should be fine.

I'd guess that if the property isn't within city limits and no HOA involved, you'd be GTG!

The address is on county road 64 ( it's technically a greeley address but not IN Greeley) there are two neighbors (one on each side of the house) that I would Deffinately talk to before I just went and started shooting though. There is quite a bit of land. It IS mostly flat but I Would build a safe backstop before shooting and maybe have a sheriff come out and okay it first.

Just got off the phone with the sheriffs office and I'm GTG as soon as there is a backstop. Thanks for the input guys.
