The ONLY way you can buy a gun in CO without a CODL w/ your current address is to have a DL from a state bordering CO.

Looks like you're shit out of luck unless you get the CODL.

I still do not understand why a CO DL is necessary. There are other ways to prove residency here besides a DL. What if the potential buyer does not drive or even have a vehicle? In a case like this, doesn't the State of CO still issue an ID card if requested? I believe a CO resident cannot get one of these State issued ID cards if they possess a current/valid CO DL. Right?

Correct, the state does issue ID cards, but you can not be in possession of a state issued ID and a CODL.

Upon getting a new ID you have to surrender your former state ID.

There are other forms of ID that are allowable to purchase a firearm, but they must MATCH one form of state issued ID.

Say your car registration has your current address and your DL does not (the little sticker they give you is not accepted by the ATF boys)

    No.

Bordering states went away in 1986.

Only a Colorado resident can buy a gun in a private sale in Colorado.

A resident of any state can buy a LONG gun from a LICENSED DEALER in Colorado, providing their state's laws (and Colorado's) allow it.
