    Default Ideal holster set up...

This came up in discussion between my brother and I, and after watching some program on TV featuring a drug bust by a Police Drug Task Force we got into the topic of holster. So now I'm curious what you guys think. In an ideal situation (concealment and all that doesn't matter), which would you go with? A belt mounted holster on your hip, or a thigh rig? I understand there are factors like body armor, and tactical situation, but let's just say in an ideal, perfect world, if you could carry your weapon in any way you like, SHTF or otherwise, which would you use?

Me, personally, I'd go with the thigh rig, mainly because it's more natural to draw the weapon, it's more comfortable, and with armor on it's more practical (drawing from my PSD experience in Afghaniland). I have a pretty sweet thigh rig for my Glock that's a padded base with a SERPA holster attached to it.

Safariland belt holster. Durable as all hell. Thigh rigs feel good for a little but start to get very uncomfortable after a long hike. I have a long torso so I feel like I have to reach down a little too far. Plus the belt holster drops and sticks out just far enough to where it doesnt interfere with a chest rig/PC. Its a very well thought out design.

I think I would go thigh rig. I have a couple of em.. one is cheap, the other is pretty nice. it takes a little adjusting, but it just seems more out of the way on the thigh to me..

+1 on the thigh rig. If concealment is not a factor, and not a lot of vehicle in and out.

IMO - Belt holster is more comfortable UNLESS you've got body armor or a large backpack. When I go backpacking, I use a thigh holster because of the pack belt. I'm seriously considering a chest rig for that purpose though.

If they make them for your particular gun, a Safariland 5181 if carrying concealed, 6377 (6378 second choice) if carrying openly (the latter two being retention holsters).

    Who, me opinionated?

Belt holster- 1.) closer to your center of mass which means not as much weight flopping around on your leg tugging at your belt 2.) easier to retain if such situation arises where someone is trying to grab for your pistol 3.) always in relatively the same position to draw pistol as opposed to being on your leg and having be in any number of locations

My favorite for hiking, walking and bike riding. I have a safariland for belt use and also an hsgi drop leg to put it in and I prefer this chest thing over both of them.

I have one of these for hiking and outdoor activities, but its obviously not concealed. I think the picture is wrong, its s'posed to be on your chest.

The one posted above looks great, what brand is that??

I'm not "tactical" by any stretch of the imagination, but I like a low riding belt holster for open carry. I get a nice draw in IDPA with that anyway and its accessible unless you have some kind of long cover garment.
