    Default Mountain House Meal Expired?

I bought a ton of Mountain House Meals today for dirt cheap practically free the only catch is they have a "best if used by" date of 2009 and 2010 but do they really go bad since they are freeze dried? Has anyone ate any that are years past the "best if used by".date? Some feed back on this topic would be greatly appreciated

If you don't have an unexpired Mtn House to compare it to I'm sure it'll taste fine.

There was another topic in here about canned food and expiration dates. I believe the consensus was that they are good for years past the best if used by date, but may suffer some in the taste department.

Usually the big factor is how they're stored and temperature.

    Pouches
We guarantee a 7 year shelf life (under recommended storage conditions) for quality of taste and appearance. After 7 years, as long as the pouch has not been punctured or opened, you might notice a slight difference in taste and appearance.
That's from Mountain House directly. Did the seller say how they were stored?

You know, I think you've just been volunteered to do a taste test, with lotsa pictures!

But like most foods, there's a difference between sell by, recommended use by, and has fuzzy green things growing on it dates. You'll read in the news where people find canned goods from WWI and WWII and try them, and they're just fine.

I ate a couple puches of freeze dried backpacking meals that were in my pack for a couple years. They were past the best by date and didnt taste too bad. Both my sons ate it with no complaints.A little loss of flavor but when you are hungry it will do just fine.

    Here. http://www.ar-15.co/forums/showthread.php?t=44421

I had a MH meal last month that was a year past. I have MRE entries that are still being consumed and they are 2001 dates.

As said stored right many things will last much longer than there dates.
I see you running, tell me what your running from
