Sounds like you it might have burned it out. Man that sucks.

dead is dead. you could put sod in right now and it would be just fine. then, read the directions and use Richlawn's Pro-Rich, which is made in Colorado.

Water It, Alot. It will dilute the fertilizer.

Not dead, most likely, just burnt. He'll have to water the crap out of it and see if it comes back.

I wouldn't suggest sod with all this heat. We sodded in April and we're still fighting an uphill battle keeping it alive. And, we have a well, so I don't worry too much about over-watering.

I did seed in some small areas with the new Scotts seed that is coated with a white substance to help it retain water. That stuff is amazing! Rake up the ground, seed, and then add a 1/4" of composted steer manure and water. I had grass in five days!

Try South American bat guano fertilizer and a better hydoponics set-up... You mean yard grass don't you? Nevermind.

+1 and maybe add some grass seed too. In the future.... use a compost topdressing in late fall or early spring. It is WAYYYY cheaper and lasts longer than any fertilizer ever will. Fertilizer essentially gets washed through the soil after a certain amount of time while a compost topdressing will stay and the grass can "feed" from it when needed, it also helps with water retention (keeping the soil moist).
Most likely it is NOT a lost cause, grass is not as fragile as most people think and it should come back (at least if it was a healthy lawn in the first place), it may look like crap the rest of this year though. You should see some new sprouts start to come up after a week or two or three... if not then you may be S.O.L.
