Default What gun should every gun enthusiast have to have?

I know many will say the M1, but what else? What are your favorites? The ones you would never sell and hope to pass along to your children?

For me, it is my Ruger II that me pops gave me, believe he bought it in the 80s. Also would have to be my DD, and my Mosins.

Personally my Ruger 10/22 mainly because it was given to me by my grandfather. It will only leave my collection when I pass it on to either a child I may have one day or one of my brother's children if I never do become a father.

Anything you can afford! Everyone should have the opportunity to own a gun.

My personal choice would be a 10/22 and a Ruger mk. 22 pistol of some variant
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

    Imo theres collectors and hoarders.

Collectors must have at least one firearm in almost every usable caliber which have played a historical part in their development over the centuries.

Hoarders, on the other hand, just pick 3-4 sentimental/combat/common calibers and then buy as many related firearms as possible. It must be noted that these hoarders can also collect firearms within their hoard. E.G. different makes/models/manufactures.

However, there are also hoarding collectors who just buy anything and everything they can get their hands on or that is REALLY REALLY COOL. This is possibly a psychological condition needing treatment... it can be mitigated by more buying.

Final answer: Just buy an 870 and glock, the rest will follow.

I didn't make it very far into this thread before I just had to say:
HELL YES! M1 (which I don't have... yet), an AR of some sort, a pump action shotgun (12GA), and no man, woman, or otherwise should consider themselves a gun enthusiast without either owning or a very strong desire to own a 1911!

I have to say a m1 is a must and so is a 10/22, I think a 1911 just becasue of its history. I don't have any in my safe, but I am working on it.....
