Default New No-Hands holding law in TN?

So we all know the word- I find it to be about the dumbest form of education ever: Abstinence. When this is taught as the "best" option it just strikes me as really really stupid. First off, how ignorant and naive do you have to be to think that teaching kids only-abstinence will really do anything positive?
Spurred by a classroom demonstration involving a sex toy, Tennessee recently enacted a pro-abstinence sex education law that is among the strictest in the nation.
The most debated section of the bill bars educators from promoting "gateway sexual activity." But supporters seemed too squeamish during floor debate to specify what that meant, so critics soon labeled it the "no holding-hands bill."

The sex ed law now uses the criminal statute on sexual assault to specify acts — such as groping or fondling — that fall under "gateway sexual activity." It also says family life curriculum must not "display or conduct demonstrations with devices specifically manufactured for sexual stimulation."
"I teach my child the power of abstinence," said Glover, whose complaint spurred the drafting of the legislation. "When you start bringing sex toys in, at a point you're stimulating the kids to have sex."
"I think that is unique in that rather than this legislation just saying there needs to be an emphasis on abstinence education, it also prohibits too explicit sex education from being either put in schools under the guise of abstinence education, or in opposition to an abstinence education program," she said.
TN is getting pretty dumb. The whole thing started when a teacher used a dildo to accurately show how to put on a condom... while yes a little over the top, education here folks, not trying to arouse the children. If you go with abstinence only education then you're going to be surprised when teens get pregnant because they're going to have sex- humans are very sexual creatures and those years are when you first start getting those "funny feelings." Teach them safe sex, not stupid abstinence only BS, and certainly don't make fondling a crime!

This is why it should be taught at home instead of at school. Never agreed with sex ed being taught in school. To me it always promoted it in a way.

I agree 110%! When the time comes that I have kids, and they reach that age, I'm going to respectfully decline allowing a public school to teach them about the birds and the bees. I remember in school during the days of "sex ed" not learning a whole lot except for the biology. They told us to use condoms and that's about it. I'd rather teach my kids my way.

Thats exactly how I remember the class being. I def dont want some moron promoting sex to my 3 sons. When they are old enough, they will get "the talk" my dad gave me. Which ended in, "dont put your pecker in every chick you meet cause thats how you catch something, and if you knock a girl up, I'll wring your neck so dont be stupid."

    His advice worked for me.

I like the Bill Engvall standup talking about "the talk" to his son.

went something along the lines of him sitting his son down to have the talk and says "son...why don't you just tell me what you know and I'll fill in all the blanks and answer your questions at the end".

Before he knew it, he had a notepad out writing things down and going "you can really do that"?

Kids will figure it out. teaching them to be safe is the biggest thing.

I'll disagree with you here. Abstinence is the best option. But, like you said, kids will be kids. Sex-ed is best taught at home.

Girlscouts? Hmmm, I don't know... I think it's kinda dangerous to teach young girls self esteem and leadership skills.

Sex ed absolutely SHOULD be taught in schools. Listen to Loveline for one night and you'll find out just how uneducated people are about sex.

I understand your point, but parents should be teaching their kids this stuff. School shouldn't be replacing parents.

We have our first kid on the way. I don't ever want to see him/her in the same classroom with a dildo under any cirsumstance. Completely inappropriate. Schools should not be teaching teens how to put on condoms. There should be separate voluntary classes for this if parents want their kids to learn this or the parents could actually do some parenting and quit abdicating to the public youth indoctrination centers (oops, I meant public schools).

To solidify your argument- Everything I need to know about life I learned in Kindergarten, except for physics, that shit I learned before Kindergarten.
