No it's not what you're thinking. I imagine that local LE agencies are going to have their hands full with calls about fireworks next week, but I was wondering, since we're going to have a little BBQ at my mom's house (propane grill, no worries!) on the 4th, about the laws concerning others shooting off fireworks. My mom lives in a neighborhood in Evergreen that is pretty flat, wooded, and sort of densely populated. Every year kids in our neighborhood shoot off fireworks regardless of how dry it is. If we can't get a rapid response from Jeffco Sheriff, is there anything within our civil duties and rights that we can do if we do witness people violating the fire ban by shooting off fireworks? I understand the law states you can make a civilian arrest if you are a direct witness to a crime, but I'm not sure about the severity or if it has to be a felony or it can be a lesser charge. I'm just wondering if we witness someone shooting off fireworks in our neighborhood if we are able to somehow detain them while waiting for JCSO, or if we should just report them to the dispatcher and hope that they catch the bastards.

Just curious, because we said we're gonna go posse style on anyone who starts a fire due to their stupidity or negligence and round 'em up! <Kidding, but seriously, I really would like to be very proactive this year in helping to prevent another fire breaking out.
