    Cool G__Fred’s Latest Report –

    All,

I thank you for your inputs, I do find the diversity of opinions and experience makes good reading as time permits.

Just a “time now” FYI, as most of you know my questions was posted before the event in Aurora. From that time I decide to look at pursuing my first AR15 build (I did not have one, and if the laws change want to have one just in case).

A dedicated upper is in the future, but with the Aurora event, and finding a few deals for the 10/ 22 accessories, I have modified the Ruger for my current 22lr platform.

From the standard Carbine design, I have:

    • Replaced the stock with a folding Ram-Line composite
    • Added a “quick mag release” lever
    • Muzzle Brake
    • 3x9-32 scope (with see-through mounts)
    • 2 – 25 BX mags
    • 1 – 50 Drum
    • 1 – Mag loading tool
    • Harris Bipod & Adapter
    • Vertical Grip
So the 22lr platform is not AR based to date, but I think this configuration will do for awhile……

Another modification I like is the pull to release bolt hold open. It allows you to just pull back on the bolt handle to release the bolt hold open instead of having to fiddle with the bolt lock lever while pulling back on the bolt. It's also called an automatic bolt release. You can buy a a bolt release already modified or modify one yourself by simply filing on it. You have to remove the release from the trigger pack do file it.

This video shows where to file the on the release.

There are other videos on youtube that show how to remove and replace the bolt release if you need that info.

    Have fun.
