    Default Road Rage

What kind of Road Rage incidents have you encountered, and what
    did you do about it?

Had a guy tailgating me once, years ago before we called it road rage. I did what I normally do, slow down. When he finally pulled past me, I looked over and he was holding a little POS .25 auto in his hand up against the back of his passenger seat, so I could see it and be intimidated. So I sped up, and held up my .45 for him to see, and just grined at him. I guess that goes to show, you have to be careful who you threaten.

I've had several incidents over the years. I've always come out on top. In retrospect, I always recall how fundamentally stupid my actions were, as well as the actions of the other guy.

One particular incident comes to mind. I was going slow, looking at some property, with my wife as a passenger, when a man wanted to pass. When he got his chance, he did so, but flipped me off. I flipped him back. It escalated and I pulled over. He ended up pulling up next to me, rolling down his passenger window and telling me to get out. I said "Sure" but brandished my 1911, always in the car, by my emergency brake, condition 1. He said: "I'm calling the cops" and drove off. Lucky for me he didn't bring one up and fire.

Later I was messing with my pistol and found there was no round in the chamber. My father in law, who had driven my car a day or two before, had taken the round out of the chamber.

I stepped on my dick in not checking my weapon before displaying it like a fool. Had that guy had a gun, which I had anticipated, I would have taken him before he took me, if it had been condition 1. It was not. He could have come up and, while I was between him and my wife, that is no guarentee she wouldn't have been the victim of two stupid assholes who didn't have the sense God gave a moron.

Even if it would have been a fair fight, and even if I would have won, I would have lost. Even if I would have been cleared in his death, I would have lost. Even if me and my wife were not harmed, I would have lost.

Reserve your killing for those who need it. Unless someone is using their vehicle as a weapon, there is no need to throw down.

Anyone who wants that John Wesley Hardin, wild west crap, should move to Afgahnistan and tell me how they like it. Funny how most folks, when given the chance to be Matt Dillon end up being the timid store owner looking to Matt Dillon for help.

Sometimes when I've got hot and ready, I see the mistake is made by some person, usually a woman, but sometimes a man, who sheepishly acknowleges their mistake with a smile and a "sorry" shrug. It disarms me immediately and I move on. I try to remember that when I fuck up.

    My two cents.

once i passed a jeep on my motorcycle with my wife on the back. the guy started tail gating me by about 2' at 70mph. i went faster to get away from him up until about 95mph with this guy still all over me and flashing his brites at me. after about 1 min which felt like forever i decided to pull over and even up my chances on the side of the road. motorcycle vs. jeep was not in my favor and that guy was tring to make me crash. i turned on my signal and pulled over. the jeep stoped in the middle of the street spun a uturn and took off. i guess he was not ready to get serious. that was the scariest roadrage i have experianced. i really thought i was going to get run over and killed. i was afraid for my life and for my wife. i wonder what the legality of firing a shot from the bike would have held for me? i can say by the time i pulled over i had already tried to escape and was ready to defend myself.

Doesn't happen too often to me. Although, last year some retard was tailgating me in downtown golden. I slowed down, he got pissed, and eventually passed me on Indiana. He then drives the limit, so I stay behind him. He turns into MY neighborhood trying to get away from me. He pulls into a side street that is a culdesac, and I continue on my merry way.

When people flip me the bird I usually grin and wave back, for some reason this seems to drive them into a frenzy.

    Happened to me twice.

Both times I was rammed by the other vehicle.

The first time, the city took the guy to court and I testified on the states behalf. He walked. Interestingly, the guy had a rap-sheet a mile long. Had run someone off the road the day before me, and ran an off-duty cop off the road the day after me. Menacing. Driving without a license. A whole bunch of additional cases. I want to say he had around 17 pending court appearances. The jury wasn't allowed to know any of that.

The 2nd time they never caught the guy.

Just once in West Texas. Wife and infant daughter were sleeping in back seat of car. Out in the middle of no where this joker comes on my tail and stays there for a bit then passes and makes unfriendly jestures. Gets 100 yrds ahead then slows down to 30 and stays there so after a while I pass him and get back up to highway speed. Then his games start all over again so I grab my SP101 make sure its loaded and get into the mind set that if he forces me off the road or stops in the middle of the road like he looked like he was going to he was going down. I wasn't going to screw with an idiot 30 miles from the nearest town and take a chance on my wife or daughter being hurt. He played his stupid little games for 10 or 15 miles then flipped me off and bolted down the highway. To this day I have no idea what his problem was but he was damn close to meeting his maker.

Going the speed limit on Hwy 93, south into Golden. Car full of jokers FLEW up behind me, honking their horn and flashing their lights. We were almost in town, and there were cars ahead of me. It‘s not like he was going to gain much ground.

The driver started flipping me off, I ignored it. Got to where Golden Gate road meets 93, at the light. (it was green) He ZOOMS into the turn ONLY lane and passes me on the right, cutting me off as he pulls back into my lane. A Golden police officer had witnessed the whole thing. Pulled the idiot over. I honked, waved, and had a BIG smile on my face, as I passed them.

Stupidity on my part or my actions avoided and incident? I don't know. I was on Kiowa coming from the Coke plant, many years ago and a pickup truck full of a$$holes in the back were throwing things at cars, cutting them off, and trying to provoke a fight. I owned an Egyptian Helwan 9mm, and when they slowed down to pull even with me, I chambered a round while steering with my knee. They saw it, turned white and scared, and drove away very fast not messing with any other cars.

Another one, I'd almost forgotten about. At the time, I was separated from the wife, (relative happy time in my life), and was on my way to my apt. from her place late at night. Driving down 225 near Cherry Creek Res. and minding my own biusiness, some AH runns right up on my bumper. Fine, I pull to the far right lane, and he whips around me, then slows down and gets back on my 6. Then speeds up and whips around agian. Fine, my exit came and I got off. He stops on the highway, backs up and follows me all the way to my apt. Chases me around the parking lot and out into the surrounding nieghborhood. I finally lost him and headed back to where I normally park. I just getting my goods out of my truck when he comes carrening up into the parking lot and stops right behind my truck.

As he's getting out of his muscle car, he's saying, "I'm gonna kick your as...." Thats about as far as he got. As he was pulling up, I was pulling my .45 out, and as he got out of his car, I chambered a round and just stood my ground at a low ready.

He just stood there, half in and out of his car, and staring at my pistol. I didn't even have it pointed at him, and he just asks, "What are you going to do with that?"

"Well, I'm sure as hell not going to let you kick my ass. What do you want with me?"

"I just want you to say you're sorry."

Fine, didn't mean anything to me, "I'm sorry."

As he's gitting back in his car, he stupidly say's, "Well I know where you live and I can get you anytime now."

"And I have your license plate number, with that I can get your Social Security number and with that I can make your life a living hell. Do you really want to &*%$ with me?" With that, he peeled out and I never saw him again.

I don't doubt for a second that I would have fired had he not stopped when he saw the gun. He was easily twice my size and solid and had been chasing me all over the place. To this day I have no idea what I was saying I was sorry for, I was just relieved that the threat did stop him and nobody got hurt.
