I'm still a little confused how this is a religious hate crime and not just a political sign that was removed.

I think anyone that sees a "Vote Satan" or "Vote God" banner or some other variation of that, during an election year, is going to assume you're referring to the current President (or a Presidential candidate).

Or perhaps I am the only one that read that banner as "Vote Obama"...

I completely agree with this and could not have said it better. What I also think is this is supposed to be America and as I completely disagree with his chosen Religion, he should be able to show what he believes in and know one should be messing with the property he paid for. The way it looks to me being cut the way it was I really doubt it was a hate crime, more like some dumb teenage kids that thought it was cool and stole it.
