    Default Shooting in Castle Rock

I thought for sure someone would have posted this by now

CASTLE ROCK - Thousands were awakened near midnight by emergency notifications, and police in the streets using bullhorns trying to alert residents that a seven-hour manhunt for an armed gunman was underway in their neighborhood.
Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Castle Rock Police received a call that there was a suspicious man with a gun hiding in the bushes near Appleton Way and S. Ridge Rd.
Around 7 a.m., Castle Rock Police were able to arrest the suspect who allegedly fired on police Wednesday night.
When police arrived on the scene Wednesday night, they determined there was a domestic-violence incident in the area. Their investigation led them a few blocks away to a home in the 1200 block of South Ridge Road where a man shot several rounds at the officers on scene.
None of the officers were injured. The officers did return fire but did not injure the suspect.
"This is still very much an active scene. All we're saying is officers were shot at. Other than that right now the primary focus is trying to locate the suspect," said Sgt. Ron Hanavan, a Public Information Officer with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, before they caught the suspect.
Several agencies including a Denver Police Department helicopter, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Regional SWAT Team, the Castle Rock Police Department were searching fields just south of the Castlewood Ranch neighborhood and the Founders neighborhood for him.
Police say the suspect they captured was 41-year-old Lonnie Pebley. He is described as a white, bald, male with tattoos. Pebley may be wearing blue shorts and no shirt or possibly a yellow shirt.
Details regarding Pebley are not being released at this time.

    Default Kudos

Kudos to the police for not killing this scumbag. Hopefully, when he gets out of prison, he will be so old that he can't even run! I still think cop cars should be armored!

Yeah, it would be nice. But it would be hard to justify that very expensive armor on police cars for the limited amount of shootings.

Momma always said "Stupid is as stupid does".

This guy is likely to be seeing open spaces through bars for many years.

Glad to hear that no officers were injured/killed.

Ok I don't get this... does no one get it these days? You shoot at police, even if you don't injure or kill, you're not going to get away with it! You will not pass go, you will not collect $200... Seriously, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

The only way to do it would be to have a "standard patrol car". Kind of like the "Checker" cabs of New York Citys' past. All the cars the same design. Instead we have commercial off the shelf vehicles, with upgraded engines, brakes, etc. Aspen has Saabs, state driving Fords, local city with Chevy's. No way you can economically armor all those varieties cheaply.

I looked but I couldn't find any statistics on officers being shot in their vehicles. FBI stats don't show that. I guess it won't come about until terrorists kill responding police officers in their vehicles and then proceed to carry through with the planned terrorist act. Politicians are so reactive to events like these, hopefully we can vote in some that are proactive.

Some agencies are adding armor as seen in this link:

Ya, um, I didn't leave the house this morning. Considering I fit the description and carry most of the time, I didn't want to tempt fate. I didn't have anywhere to go anyway.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

You probably wouldn't have missed though.
