Jim - To be honest, I went because it didn't require much work.
I spend most of my time at work planning and ensuring logistical issues are squared away. Every family trip I go on, I seem to end up covering the planning and logistics. So when someone I knew was planning this trip, offered me a spot and told me my responsibility was "pay your way" I jumped on it.
HoneyBadger - 4 days in Masai Mara, the Kili climb, 5 days in the Serengeti and airfare ran about $4500 counting what I spent on the ground (almost nil).
