I've never left Standley empty handed. They have some funky rules about boats - it something like "members only" thing, Google it.

I fished Standley Lake many times years ago when I lived 5 mintues away from there. We had very good success. If you're bringing a kid, use Powerbait and (if things are like they were a few years ago) you'll do just fine from shore. We caught fish almost every trip.

Just fished Standley lake yesterday by boat with my neighbor. We took home 5 walleye (one of which was 24", the rest between 15-18") and 2 smallmouth and had a nice fish fry. We back trolled with a Lindy rig.

To get a boat on Standley lake, you need to get your boat sealed (cabled to your trailer) by one of the park rangers and sprayed for zebra mussels. Then wait 11 days and you can put your boat on the lake. Once you leave, they'll re-seal your boat to your trailer and you can bring it back at any time as long as the seal isn't broken. If you go to another lake, you have to re-spray and wait the 11 days again.

It's $15 to get in for a boat w/ under 20 hp. Greater than 20HP, you need to apply for a $200 season permit and it's a lottery system to get that.

I don't plan to bring a boat, just fish from shore. Seems like boating is best option for that lake.
