Acetone

I had trouble keep a scope mount tight on an M1A, so, I used some locktite on it. I think it was red, but don't have the bottle anymore. It worked really well.
Now I am thinking of selling the M1A, but wish to keep the mount and scope.

I am not going to try heat.

Will acetone hurt the parkerizing?

Acetone will not soften the LocTite nor will it "creep" down into the threads.
Here is a trick-take a soldering iron and just heat the screwhead until you see/hear sizzling and or the LocTite bubbling.
Remove the fastener as normal.
Acetone will not harm a typical finish but you have to be careful near finished wood or synthetic items.

Let me guess-Springfield or similar aluminum mount?
Dollars to doughnuts says the reason the mount did not stay tight is it was not installed correctly to start with.
Most folks just screw them on and away they go. There are a couple of tricks to properly install the Al. mounts on a M1A and you really don't want to watch it being done

While I can't speak to the other items mentioned here, I can tell you that if you go with the acetone route and you have any open wounds that the acetone gets into you will see that you've found a new definition of pain and dogs for a 6 block radius will probably start howling with you.

I found this out the hard way last year.

I started out with a Springfield mount and it was a problem, loosened after 3-5 rounds.
I used some instant glue and it held better, but the mount really wasn't good.

I switched to a Smith mount and had a lot of difficulty lining it up. Smith even worked with me over the phone. I used the locktite because I did not want a repeat of the loosening. Found out later it wasn't needed on the Smith mount. However, the Smith mount is solid as rock.

red loctite will require heat to remove or you will strip the fastener. The only thing stronger is green bearing retaining loktite, 680 if I remember. Blue can go eithor way so for the most part i stick with 222 purple to stay out of trouble.
