I am under the impression that there is only a tax benefit to marriage when the two incomes are significantly different from each other, like $120,000/yr compared to $30,000/yr. We talked about this in one of my economics classes back in college, but it has been a long time and I don't remember.

there shouldnt be any tax breaks for anyone. normal, homo, bi, tri, whatever marriage. the government shouldnt be recognizing any marriages. that is what your religious institution is for. no tax breaks for charitable giving, gambling losses, none of it.

Weather you agree with it or not. If you can legally stick your buddy in the butt, you should be able to be married to however many women or men as you want.

And before you call all polygamist welfare leaches, think again. Sure, some are, but so are alot of married couples, alot of single people and lots of homosexual, transgender, bisexual, curious, etc ad naseum people.

The support structure created by polygamist relationships is generally very good for all parties.
Agree, with these comments as additional clarification support for my opinion:

As long as all involved are consenting adults and they get no special rights or privileges because of it, Whatever floats your boat.

CONSENTING ADULTS - everyone at least 18 years old & absolutely NO forced marriages or pressured marriages like the existing cults who practice polygamy practice.

Forfeiture of any sort of welfare or government social support benefits, including tax breaks.

Meet that criteria & I have no issues with it (although, it's not for me as I can barely deal with my one wife).

By officially acknowleging gay marriages, the government has already changed the meaning of the "word". Whether it be single hetero, gay or plural, "marriage" does bring certain benefits to the participants by corporate recognition of the bond to receive health, etc. benefits as well as sees as your lawful heirs. I figure that if they're going to recognize any non-additional bond as marriage, they should recognize all bindings between consenting adults as marriage if the principles involved wish it to be so.

Poligamy should be like driving without a seatbelt ... legal but if you do it you're responsible for your own injuries.

    I just made myself shudder.
