One of the 12, Matthew McQuinn, has been tentatively identified and is awaiting final identification, though his family's attorney confirmed to The Associated Press that McQuinn was among those killed.

Rob Scott of Dayton, Ohio, said McQuinn died after diving in front of his girlfriend and her older brother to shield them from the gunfire.

That was a pretty heroic and amazing thing for someone to do. I am watching the news now and it sounds like they almost have the whole apt room disarmed of bombs. NOT gonna get 1 more life like he hoped to get pos.

Seeing their faces both saddens and infuriates me. What an AS$#@£€!!! An evil thief who stole their future from them, stole them from their families, and stole their societal contributions from all of us. Rob Scott, A man who threw himself in harm's way to save others, is quite a loss (as are all the victims). RIP.

It was actually McQuinn who covered others with his own body during the shooting. Life is pretty short as it is, death comes to us all, no avoiding it, McQuinn deserves our respect and admiration as one who in the final moments of life did the best he could with what he had.
