Anyone notice there has been little talk or questions about the smoke bombs (and in some reports the tear gas)? Unless they are the fuse lit kind they arn't really commonly available.

The only thing I can think of is they may be home made. Along the lines of what he set up in the appartment.

So the shooter was supposedly among the top in his class at grad school for med research? (all hearsay) Wonder if the healthcare deal along with his student loans pushed him over? Just one of those shower thoughts.

That was something that crossed my mind too. They say about a month ago he stopped going to class and was in the process of dropping out. That's about the same time the SC upheld the Obummertax.

Cost of getting his degree vs. being limited on what you can charge under the new law?

The weapons, gear and ammo were all bought since May. Not to mention the devices in the apartment. The man is a college student, where did he get all the money to fund everything? Possibly a student loan? Did he use funds provided by his family? What about all the Occupied Wall Street connection rumors? Does he have a suicide letter or since his goal may have been to survive what is his agenda? Regardless others knew this person was tettering on the edge.

Sad that those of us who buy bulk ammo may be looked at as potential James Holmes down the road, or if we buy a couple firearms in a short period, or if you sale or trade on a forum etc. That will be a waste of time , the people who will be most effective in stopping violence are the people close or interact with them. The mother knew something, it appears this guy posted in forums what he was going to do, so where are those people responsibilities that chatted with him? Quite frankly if I saw anything suspicious in this forum I would report that person in a heartbeat. However quite frankly most of the posts I see in here are from people passionate about 2a rights and generally being responsible. My two cents is that like what was done in school safety the focus should be on awareness of potential violent behaviors. Countless violent acts in k-12 ed have been thwarted by family members and peers taking that approach since Columbine. Perhaps this terrible situation will have people thinking about that crazy family member or the forum member spewing crazy things.

From what I know, we're friends with a guy who has his PhD, and MD in Neuroscience- not cheap. A lot of people are wondering how he afforded all this, some are even saying he was collecting unemployment- which I believe is probably false. 9News reported last night that one of his teachers said that he was very quiet and "socially withdrawn."

In the aftermath of this, especially after seeing one of the survivors interviewed talking about how it will be a very long time before he goes back to a movie theater, one has to wonder, will this taint that industry? Will fear rule over the fact that these instances are rare? Will you go to a movie at a theater anytime soon? Will you think twice before allowing your children to go to a movie theater?

I think looking at this the thing that angers me most is that people immediately see a tragedy and have the desire to politicize it and blame the tools used instead of the attitude and cruelty that some people possess. Guns didn't make this man evil, he was evil and had some serious issues with his mental wiring. Whatever his reasons or motives this is not something we should ignore, gun ownership would not prevent this, so I think the media and others on a crusade against guns need to instead look at what creates monsters like this and go after that- not this fallacy like we saw with Columbine that video games, music, movies, etc makes people like this. I think a lot of questions need to be answered, and what contributed to this man's psychosis and twisted morals? I'm glad he's alive and hope that we can find out why, maybe figure out what went wrong with him to make him do this unspeakable act.

At first they're all in a race to 'sensationalize' it as much as possible.

Later on they try to out 'sensitivity' each other.
