To Help the Victims and Family

Let's start something like a fundraiser / donation thing to use our compassion for our fellow man to at least help put a band aid on the wounds caused by that psycho.

I don't really know what that would look like now. Suggestions?

I can't think of anything that will really be a huge help (nothing can replace stolen lives) But I was thinking maybe holding a candle light prayer or something near the scene. Pray for the dead, the wounded and the families... I don't know. It's the only thing that I can think of. At least offer our support? I wish I wasn't in Afghanistan, so I could take part in whatever helpful activities that I could.

EDIT: Maybe bring flowers or "care packages" to the wounded in the hospitals? Maybe start a fund to help with funeral cost?

Bonfils is apparently booked up. Not accepting walk-ins and appointments are having to be set next week.

I was about to go up there today and see if they would let me donate (wasn't sure because of my ATV deal), then they announced on the news that walk-ins weren't going to fit.

Denver, Colo (July 20, 2012) – Due to an overwhelming response to this morning's shooting tragedy, Bonfils Blood Center is currently not accepting any walk-in donors as all appointments at our donor centers and blood drives for today through Monday, July 23 are booked. Bonfils strongly encourages those community members wanting to donate blood to call 303.363.2300 or visit www.bonfils.org to schedule your appointment and find a donor center/mobile drive nearest you. We are particularly in need of O-, A- and platelet donations and ask that donors with those blood types please consider donating. Bonfils is also experiencing a high volume of calls and website traffic at this time and we ask for your cooperation and patience as you try to schedule an appointment .

As of this time, Bonfils has met the needs of the local hospitals involved in this tragedy by sending more than 300 units of blood and is asking that donors make appointments in the coming weeks to help replenish our blood supply.

Excellent ideas! Even if we got together a huge sum of money to donate, we couldn't be sure of where it goes, etc...
