Default CO DMV selling personal information?

    Begin rant.

My wife renewed her Colorado DL online a few days ago (who wants to go stand in line at the physical DMV anyway). In the renewal application questions were asked regarding current insurance (to be expected, I guess) and also current vehicles she owns. I thought it was BS for them to ask the question about cars (this was for a DL not registration) but it was required so she filled it out. The renewal application also asked for credit rating which is MAJOR BS. That is no business of the DMV!

Anyway, fast forward to today and she has been getting spammed via cell, email AND text from multiple insurance agents trying to get her to change insurance. They all have said she requested they call her. She did no such thing. The only explanation is the DMV either sold or outright gave her personal information to these agents which is complete and total BS and a major abuse of authority by the DMV. We are both pissed. F'n crooks.

I renewed mine online a few months ago and had none of this happen.

Is it possible you are the victim of phishing? Is the site you went to the REAL Colorado DMV site, or is it a fake made to look like it?

I wouldn't doubt it if they do.

I know the County sells your info. I had a mailbox full of junk mail addressed to me at my new house before I even had my change of address put in at my old place.

This I don't know. She did it from her work computer. I hadn't thought of this. Makes me wonder and has me worried...

I renewed my license less than a week ago online and I also did not have any of these questions.

Nope... This happened to me too. Right after I renewed my DL my phone started blowing up every day with insurance companies calling me saying they had the quote that I requested... I never requested any quotes!!! I thought it was possibly identity theft but I asked the insurance companies where they got my info and they said DMV.
