Almost 2 years and the motorcycle I'm looking at is not a supersport but rather a sport touring.

Cool. Sounds like you got a good start.

I remember the days on the sport bike forums, 18 year old kids buy the new hottest 1000cc sport bike as his starter. Seems like we have some better heads on shoulders around here.

Good luck on the insurance. What kind of a bike?

At $6k a year I would be trying to avoid financing. A $12-13k bike (big four Japanese bikes) at $6k a year to insure... Man. I'd grab liability and save that $6k. You are basically betting on yourself not to total the bike in the first year and a half (depreciation). New GS, or an Italian varietal will be more expensive to replace, and offsets this argument.

I ALWAYS get uninsured underinsured coverage on my bikes too. Just in case someone puts me in the hospital without any insurance or money to pay for it.

doesn't sound right for a sport tourer...I'm 44 and just priced out coverage for an FJR1300 and it was $575 a year through met life....and $590 with progressive, full coverage low deductible.

    My home built harley has a 120" (almost 2000cc's) and it's $175 a year

You Harley guys. Always thinking that a 120ci should be compared to a 1000cc SS.

Rule #1) NEVER, F'ING EVER, FINANCE A MOTORCYCLE

That said I have Progressive. For my 1200 and 900 I pay a total of $76.00 a year for full coverage.

I shopped for insurance when I bought my Hayabusa and got the lowest price thru who ever Fay Meyers used. I don't have my bike anymore so I couldn't tell you which company it was.

State Farm is known for low motorcycle rates. They quote bikes based on cc rather type of motorcycle. A 1000cc Harley should be roughly the same as a 1000cc sportbike. Call and see.

He's financing a liter bike and under 25. Does not matter how much or little you are financing, it's still 1/2 the banks and they want to make sure their end is covered.
Price out a similar mc only under 1K. The 650's scream and figure you can save 1/2-2/3's the quote you have now.

Progressive has low rates, will work with you, and will cover motorcycles that other insurers won't. I recommend them.
