Well, in that case, yes. Wood shelves will hold a lot. I have plans to build some about twice this size in my garage, gotta get some insulation and drywall done first. Ammo shelves will be 6-8ft. wide by approx. 18" deep, and taller than the garage door track. Each wood frame has support stringers every couple feet or so, and will be screwed right to the wall studs, at every stud. Then use 2x2's for upright support poles/legs on the front corners and the center. There will be 3/4" plywood doors covering it all up, with two large hasps and padlocks.
Very similar to this, but much bigger. I'm tired of schlepping ammo cans up and down the basement stairs.

Oh, I've also got some big-ass shelves in the basement made with 2x4's & 1/2" plywood decking, anchored to the concrete wall, probably 16 ft. long. Those bastards are sturdy enough you could stack a bunch of SB Chevy engines on them.
