Hey, I'd like to discuss the mental health thing being tossed around.
I don't like the idea that a doctor, or an arbitrary standard could determine whether or not you have your rights.
I may or may not have some PTSD, been on medications at some point for anxiety/depression, but I've never been a threat to society.
It is a really tough thing to put into law because each case is completely different. But, if people go after anything, it should be the mental health thing because that is an issue (not that I support any more laws at all). It is just a very difficult issue to legislate law around.
Checkin' in.
I've spent the last couple of hours drafting emails and sending to all of the New Mexico representatives regarding HB 402, which is basically a NY Gun Ban style piece of legislation, assault weapons and 7rd mags.
So far, I've posted on 3 forums about it, including email addresses for all of the reps, emailed all new mexican gun owners that I know (and other people that I feel would email about this), posted on facebook, written my CCW instructor so he can distribute in a mass emailing, and emailed each representative individually/directly (ie not a mass email).
unfortunately the med profession in general is not gun friendly. Having a "medical professional" determine your stability is in itself Insane. The hippa laws cover privacy BUT like with psychiatric The threat to society / them self is not a hippa protected item. They are required to notify the authorities, which in the holmes case someone dropped the ball, BIG TIME. The flip side is once in motion they open them self up for potential lawsuit.

Feeling less worried about HB402 in New Mexico, but more worried about whether or not a plane can take off a treadmill.![]()
This shift is never going to end. Patrolling the mean streets of the Air Force Academy can make an 8 hour shift seem like eternity sometimes.
Mine is over too quickly tonight, These guys had me running.
