Today is a really bad day

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

That sucks man, but your doing the best thing for your best friend.

I have had to put down three of my own dogs and three of my Grandma's. And two of my aunts. Just know that even though you dont think it now, there is room in your heart for another dog someday.

I've been there too many times myself. The last act of love you can show him is to hold him and give him your love as he goes to sleep. I helped a friend of mine do this last week, never easy.

Sorry for your loss and doing what pains a lot of us, but has to be done.
The wife put down our last 2 ,13 & 14 yr old pups 4 years ago. She said at the time no more pets as over the 34 years we've been together a few had to be put down either from illness or age. It was hard for her to do the last 2 and she said it was something her heart could not take doing again.
After the passing of my mother & brother within 2 weeks of each other we started looking for another dog. Took a bit but the wife says our latest pet was the therapy she needed.
Give yourself sometime to deal with the grieving then consider another pet that needs a loving home such as yours.

So sorry for your loss brother. I lost my father last year and didn't shed a tear......I lost my dog and cried like a baby! But we did give him a military funeral!!!
