I'm the opposite. I'm 26 and my brother is 45 and could out lift me by far. I'm going to be using the Starting Strength program starting in August to see how far I can get on a linear progression.

I would recommend a non-linear strength program, got My bench over 400 and my squat close to 600

In a nutshell, it means switching it up all the time

I assumed as much. I was curious what "switching it up all the time" meant to him.

I change my workout, muscle group order and reps up about every 4 weeks. Get that cardio in there about once or twice a week as well.

My best benching was about 2 years ago, hit 425. Then took some time off and recently started lifting again with no desire or spotter to go heavy. I have been doing the 10X10 with good results, when i plateau i will change but after 6 weeks its still going strong. 10x10 on bench then light triceps/shoulders every 4th day, everyother day its heavy triceps/shoulders. Pulling every 2nd day.

I agree with dont go overboard. I have always been very competitive when lifting and working. From having hay throwing contests to anything else we could do. I had a bulged disc in high school and now at 35 my back hurts so bad sometimes i cant stand it. I will never quit tearing my self up over stupid stuff, but i know what my dad meant now.

West side barbell has tons of awesome routines, just google for a exel spreadsheet workout and find one that you like. Also, Dave Tate has some awesome routines as well, here is one that I used for a while.
