Default Why is 80234 listed as "Denver" ?

Although 80234 does not seem to include any part of Denver/Denver County when mapped, it is often "pops up" as Denver in most searches and sales software (viz enter the Zip Code and the S/W fills in the City/State).
    It seems to be bounded

    It covers

    Denver is bounded by:

    • North - roughly 52nd street (west of I25)

So, since 104th is about 50 blocks away from 52nd, 80234 does not seem to overlap with any part of Denver.

This has caused some issues with buying firearms accessories and services.
    a) Some suppliers won't ship mags > 10 rds to this ZipCode
(Actually some told me they won't ship to Colorado because of not being sure what were Colorado laws and which were Denver laws)
    b) Centuury Arms would not return my rifle to me directly (they wanted to send it to an FFL outside of 80234) after I sent it to them for repair because I sent in a 30rd mag with it (they required it to be sent in with a mag for testing).

I tried sending a copy of my DL and County Tax Statement to them to prove I was not in Denver...it didn't work.

When I asked the Post Office, they said since 80234 covers a bunch of Denver suburbs, it is called "Denver" to make it simple.

Has anyone else had these problems?
If so, how have you worked around them?

I dunno. I used to live in 80234 (116th and Pecos ish) and about half my mail would say Denver and the other would say Westminster.

Never had any guns at that time though so I can't help ya.

I see this problem all the time- I live in Lakewood, and my zip is 80228, but I'm right near the border with Lakewood/Golden, but it lists me sometimes, depending on where, as being in Denver. I don't get it.

802 is the Denver post office. If you have a problem do a mapquest or google map and send it to the dealer.

Tried sending a map. They say " Google is not a reliable source".
    Tried my DL as well.
Tried sending them to the USPS address look-up page: both Denver and Westminster show up. Because Denver shows up, they won't ship.

So then does all the mail come in through Denver, and then get dispersed to the smaller offices like 80234 ?

they're covering themselves from liability. just ship it to a friends house. denver has small chunks of land all over the place.

the home depot at wads and crestline is denver. silverthorne is denver.

You could try using the full zip+4 code as that narrows the location from a geographical segment to the actual block and in some instances, building.
    ie: 80234-2763

Zip Codes and Mailing addresses are weird things. I had an Aunt & Uncle that had a house over in Perl Mack (~72nd & Pecos), which was unincorporated Adams Co. Their mailing address was Denver. Later in the 70's they moved to around 74th & Sheridan, on the Westminster side of the Arvada/Westminster boundary. Their mailing address was Arvada.

That does suck W.R.T. the shipping of mags, guns etc.

    Good suggestion.

    It does not work, though.

From the USPS Zipcode Lookup page, If I enter my street address and the ZIP+4...I get Denver as the city.

You could send all your purchases to my place. I would be happy to let you, the only thing is, is that my mail carrier constantly misplaces packages..........
