    Default Western Union

Recently sold a firearm part and in payment, received a Western Union MO or Money Gram, whatever it's called. Since our local SafeWay grocery store sells Western Union MO's of this type, I thought I'd venture over there and get it cashed. No one at the Customer Service counter at 900AM so found the store manager/supt who quickly advised that although they do sell the WU money orders, they do NOT cash them. I thought what the hell!!
So, got on the toll free phone number to WU and after pressing many many buttons, a recorded message advised that it is the prerogative/decision of the stores selling these, to cash or NOT to cash them. What the hell next.

steve the manager at that safeway is a dickweed, that being said most banks as long as you have an acct there will cash them. if not l&j in raton sells them iirc, they may cash them as well not sure though.

Are you a member with a bank? They'll verify the funds for you over the phone and you can then deposit or cash it.

At least he didn't have it wired to his bank account!

Yeah, that's one form of payment that I don't bother with...

Dealing with the exact same thing. Sold some ammo in gunbroker. guy didn't listen when I said USPS money order. I told him no ammo ships until that thing is completely cleared. bank said up to 2 weeks, so the guy just has to wait. I feel bad, but I wrote my payment options for a reason.

He got it at 7-11. I took it to safeway....they don't cash them unless they were purchased there. Took it to king soopers...same story. 7-11 will only cash them up to $75....
Called the number, they verified the amount, and that it was a valid money order, but apparently the buyer can cancel the funds or something as well. Took it to my bank and they would only deposit the money and said to check back and see when it clears.

long story short: fuck western union.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that my bank cashed it with no hesitation. I really had no idea that the bank would cash a MO such as this. Oh well, live and learn and even though I am an OLD FART, I will have to admit that I still have a LOT to learn.

If you don't personally know that individual, I would recommend waiting for it to completely clear before sending out the stuff. Western Union money orders are commonly counterfeit by shady people.

Ya, I've heard of banks cashing them, and then finding out they are fake. After you already gave the guy product.
