Have the same home on a lake, triple. So yes you had lower vehicle reg but property taxes were way higher!

Guess we gotta pay our dues somewhere!!

    Still blows thought!!!
I think this is true all the way around. I never owned land in Texas so I'm not sure, but I have heard from others before how low the property taxes are here in CO compared with other places they've lived. Hmmm I think I'll go see if I can find real numbers for the amount of all taxes collected per capita by State, and compare it to the current debt by State.

When I moved from Aurora down to NM, my NM plates cost me about $160...for 2 years worth! And my property taxes are a fraction of what they were up there. My house is 2700 sq ft and I have just over 44 acres right on the Pecos river, and my total tax bill is about $1200 a year. And the house is considered to be "in town"! (OK, for anyone who's actually been down to Fort Sumner...in "village"...)

Last time I was in there registering one of my bikes, I over heard the DMV worker tell the lady "....and your total is $8,987." She must have had a fleet of trucks or something because it appeared her daughter on the other side was doing the same thing and her total was damn near $4k.

Well, that was pretty easy info to find:

Taxes collected per capita, by State (2010)

    Colorado State Debt Clock

Just comparing Colorado to Texas: Colorado collects about $200 more from it's taxpayers than Texas. Residents of Texas have a slightly smaller share of the State's debt than do the residents of Colorado. So it would seem that Colorado literally does less with more of our money.

I suppose you can attribute a lot of it to upkeep of the large amount of parks and other public lands in CO. Then again, we have roughly 1 in 10 people on food stamps, whereas Texas is 1 in 6; so there are more components to the problem than efficient spending.

I did mine a couple days ago. $340 and change and I needed emissions on a 2006!! I got charged an additional $25 per month for it sitting in my garage. This state can suck it! In Alaska they did away with emissions testing because it didn't really do any good and Registration is like $100 every 2 years.

Where is all this money going anyways?!?!?

I used to not have a problem with the DMV and registration. Cheaper than some places I've lived. In the last 4-5 years that has changed. Road and bridge tax for vehicles and trailers. Non transferable by the way. Late fees for registering previously non running vehicles. The total screw up of collector/classic plates. The list goes on.

Don't get me started on the revenue enhancing emissions testing.
