I've gotta register my Harley next week. $368 for a freakin' 2-year old bike. Wife just bought a new Traverse. $780 just in registration/owner taxes. No sales tax.

She bought it on May 31. Got the registration notice last week of June. Registered the Traverse first week of July. Because she "waited so long" (according to the gal at the clerk's office) she had to pay "Prior Ownership Tax" for ALL of May (even though she bought it the last day in May) and June.

We are definitely getting fucked at the DMV. Not to mention how much higher the fees are thanks to Bill Ritter.

Coming to the party late but plates are based on the MSRP of the car you purchase. For a new car expect just a tad over 2%. It then drops to 2% of 85% the second year, ect.

It's brutal but think about this, last week we delivered a car north of 150k, now there's some expensive plates.

I imagine a lot of your money went to sales tax. Goverlooper needs the money. The next problem you will have is when your truck is a few years old and it won't pass the fart sucker test you colorado folks like. Had a post office box in wyoming for several years now. Have to register one in colorado for my job, but the other 4 in wyoming. Have a great day.

I don't begrudge the state and county taxes to pay for legitimate services. This is one of the things we have to put up with to have a society rather than anarchy BUT ...

why are my sales and property taxes higher than FL which has no income tax to offset their sales and property taxes?

My auto registration is about twice the cost of what I had to pay in VA or FL. All that hurts are the auto dealers -- I could buy a new car now, I should buy a new car now but I won't buy a new car now when I can see annual registration of $500-1000 in the horizon.

It depends on what part of the city you live in whether or not you'll be raped on taxes.

I handle the tags for the cars at work, and I can tell you.. registering a 375k car in Greenwood Village is the same as a 125k car in Aurora.. No city tax on vehicles in GWV

Once you right a check at the DMV for 19k.. game over. Glad it's not my money.

Just registered 3 vehicles 2 weeks ago. The newest one is a 2002 Dodge Intrepid. The Intrepid was around $185. My POS/ready to die any day 1995 Celica ST (not even a good GT) was $169. $169 for this POS? This state has lost it's mind!
