Well doctors what are you going to do about this? Anywhere from 44,000 to 90,000 per year die from malpractice in the United States. Some statistics say that number is 6 times higher. Either way sounds like doctors kill more people than people with fire arms do.

Some of the DUMBEST people I have ever met are MDs. Have had to save their butts so many times I have lost count- wrong med, wrong dose, wrong patient, etc. Know there are some good ones but man you have to look. Have only met a couple of docs over the years that know anything about guns. Most are scared of guns. Pretty sad. Been shooting with a few too...pretty scarey. Not a lot of common sense, poor hunting habits, safety issues. Even had one shoot when I was downrange. Amazing.
That statement is just as ignorant as saying "Know there are some good gun owners, but man you have to look". I find far more competent docs in my daily interactions than incompetent ones, and I deal with a lot. Sure, there are morons, but they are, by far, the minority. I'm not a physician. I'm a PA, and I practice emergency medicine. I don't have a doctorate degree, but I do have a Master of Medical Science degree. And I shoot. And I shoot with some of the docs I work with. One of them is in Afghanistan right now, serving our country. When you make such skewed statements that are so out of proportion to the truth, you come off sounding as unreasonable and incredible as the libs who claim that simply owning guns makes you a threat. Stop sounding like a lib.

Private ownership of motor vehicles is responsible for 100X more fatalities and injuries than private ownership of firearms. More people die from slip and fall injuries than gunshot wounds. More people die from lung cancer from using tobacco than from gunshot wounds. Just a bit of perspective.

I believe Tor was just expressing his personal observations. Don't know what Tor does in the medical field and I will respect his view as much as I respect yours. Employees are aligned quite differently in businesses and that alignment brings different views. I bet it took a lot of work to get where you are and I admire that. However the intent of posting this article was to show members of the forum what the media and a group of doctors were promoting and that was guns are epidemic to be dealt with. In my work I deal with people in crisis quite often. The common factor is that these people have mental issues when they make the threats. Many times these mental issues are sorted out and the afflicted overcome, while others need long term care and monitoring. Our society needs to deal with mental illness and crisis better in the medical community, the regular community and in the home. Impeding a American citizens rights is not the way to go. Look closly at these shooters they had mental issues and people close them knew this as well.

I agree with and support the intent behind your post. And by no means do I support the idiot doc group who wants to demonize firearms; they're absolute morons. I was just pointing out that since it's absurd when libs say that all gun owners are idiots based in the actions of a few, it's just as dumb for us to say that all healthcare practitioners are idiots, also based on the actions of a few. We should be above the liberal tactics.

More liberal anti-gun rhetoric to turn the general public's opinion against guns.

I hate to tell you folks, but this is death by a thousand cuts and they are making progress.

Good point but that's why people got to hold the line. I may not like same sex intercorse, sodomy, and abortion however they have all been held up as a right. Each one can negatively affect society in my view. People supporting those areas stand their ground so we have to do the same. No compromises, do it in an intelligent and rational manner. Personally I hope the liberal media continues to fail financially that is the central nervous system of the people trying to take our rights away. They won't promote our side and if they win here they won't be happy until were all banished to some camp where the key has been thrown away. It's no accident that the media to pushing this agenda a couple months before the election. It's a convient distraction from issues dealing with the economy, turmoil in the middle east, and a nation that has become quite divided in the last three years. Heck you would not even know that we have people fighting in Afghanistan. We sure heard about when Bush was in charge. When I say turmoil in the middle east, we hear very little about what Iran is saying and doing or how Israel is about to take action in its defense. What about gas prices and food prices, its endless. Crazy in a Republican presidents term these would all shrill items for the media.

You sir, sound like a lib by trying to judge/jury/ execute my opinion/observations of the 100-300 docs I have worked with over the years. What is wrong with my statement of knowing there are some good MDs but you have to look for them? Like you would trust your life to just any MD without researching/finding out about the MD? You are the ignorant one if you accept whatever MD is tossed your way. Like you don't know an MD that you wouldn't let work on a family member.

Not sure why you are jumping to the defense of the MDs of the world. I'm sure they can do do that on their own. You are a PA- yeah, good for you! Keep fighting the good fight in the ED. I simply stated that in over 20 years I have met some very bad characters with an MD after their name- like any other profession. They are NOT gods! I have only met a handful that know anything about firearms or the RTKABA. Remember, there are PLENTY of MDs that are women and as a whole they react rather hostile to firearm ownership/violence. The majority of ER MDs that I have met/worked with- around 20 to 30- are NOT keen on firearms and rather anti-2nd amendment. Been to a few trauma conferences where gun ownership seems to be taboo subject. Have you ever researched how many medical organizations are against firearms and pro gun control? You might be surprised.

I would hope you would find more competent than incompetent MDs out there- they are licensed to practice medicine, aren't they? If you want a pissing contest...lay on, MacDuff.
No, brother, not looking for a pissing contest. I am not maligning your experience. Nor am I trying to judge/jury/execute your opinion about the docs you've dealt with. I am, however, pointing out that it is a mistake to extrapolate that limited exposure to the near entirety of all docs, just like its wrong for an ignorant doc to extrapolate his limited experience with firearms to all gun owners. I can tell by the emotion in your response that I hurt your feelings. I apologize, not my intent. Your statement above "What is wrong with my statement of knowing there are some good MDs but you have to look for them? Like you would trust your life to just any MD without researching/finding out about the MD?" sure seems to have a different implication than your original post, but maybe that's just me. Regardless, if you can't even see a glimpse of my original point, there probably is no point in attempting a civil discussion.
