I don't expect them to raise my kids, teach manners and how to act in society, and I don't blame teaches when they go bad and do stupid shit. I blame teachers when kids can't read, write, do math, or know BASIC history. And more specifically I blame the teaching UNIONS when they protect the teachers that aren't good at what they get paid to do.

I agree with you on the union's and other items you posted.
Keep in mind a teacher can only do so much.
WITHOUT the parent[s] there making sure the children do their homework, study for test, work with them, or get tutoring assistance as needed, the teacher could be the second coming of jesus and still the kids would fail.
Positive reinforcement at home, instilling a sense of purpose AND responsibility in the child makes for a successful adult.
Teachers we met with over the course of our daughter's journey through school, repeated the same thing, no matter what school it was.
They were amazed that not only did we attend teacher, parent meetings, we took an active role with her education. AND were her biological parents, something rare i guess.
Something say 50% do not. They are more concerned about being their friend than parent. This is part of the reason we see dumb shit (in our minds) going on, when in reality they have no #$%^& clue.
