Yeah after Aurora he made some stupid comment about being able to walk into a 7-11 and buy a bazooka and that was the last time I watched Bill.

He's from Long Island. Did you expect anyone in the NYC metro area to support private ownership of "ass halt rifles?"

Maybe Jim could explain the mindset better than I can, but I will try.

Most people currently living in the east coast megalopolis don't believe citizens have any legitimate need for or reason to own "military style" weapons or ammunition. That is why they pay high taxes for large police departments that will keep them safe from mentally ill, right wing, fringe whack job lunatics in Colorado.

For those who have lived there, can I get an Amen?

coming from jersey i saw no need for anyone to own anything larger then a pistol

then i moved out to the rural plains and i have a bunch of asssssault rifles (before the boating accident) all my jersey friends think im a psycho..... when you live back east big guns are scarey you have no opportunity to ever see them in the hands of anyone other then LEO so you assume that there the only people qualified to have them

We moved over a 1/4 of a century ago because they had no clue. Most large metropolitan areas believe and feel it is the .gov's responsibility to take care of them. This is the average union, white & blue collar worker. Let's not even venture in to how the entitlement brain work's.
Funny thing is the process to obtain a target and or carry permit, outside of madhatten was moderately easy.
Even easier was the availability of "street guns" 1-2 phone calls and your order would be filled by next "business" day.

Amen! I was stationed in NY (Upstate, not the city) for 3 years. I was allowed to have a rifle pretty easy but when I transferred my Glock up there I found that I had to have a pistol permit just to touch it! When I went to the local SO they said they were "less inclined" to do all that work for someone there on temporary status. WTF? So glad to be back here!
