From a legit website, not from memory...

Employers are generally prohibited from requiring or requesting any employee or job applicant to take a lie detector test, and from discharging, disciplining, or discriminating against an employee or prospective employee for refusing to take a test or for exercising other rights under the Act.

Federal, State and local governments are not affected by the law. Also, the law does not apply to tests given by the Federal Government to certain private individuals engaged in national security-related activities.

The Act permits polygraph (a kind of lie detector) tests to be administered in the private sector, subject to restrictions, to certain prospective employees of security service firms (armored car, alarm, and guard), and of pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors and dispensers.

The Act also permits polygraph testing, subject to restrictions, of certain employees of private firms who are reasonably suspected of involvement in a workplace incident (theft, embezzlement, etc.) that resulted in economic loss to the employer. The law does not preempt any provision of any State or local law or any collective bargaining agreement which is more restrictive with respect to lie detector tests. Where polygraph tests are permitted, they are subject to numerous strict standards concerning the conduct and length of the test. Examinees have a number of specific rights, including the right to a written notice before testing, the right to refuse or discontinue a test, and the right not to have test results disclosed to unauthorized persons.

In God we trust.. All others we polygraph.

    Certain jobs still require polygraphs.
What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?

IF you have nothing to hide. Think before answering, stay calm, be honest. Let them know this is first for you and you're a little intimidated. Just trying to do tricks/etc can score badly for you. Be yourself.

I was so nervous for it, that my blood pressure sky rocketed and I failed the physical exam. So my wife took my blood pressure when I got home, AFTER everything has calmed down, and its fantastic.

    What. The. Hell.

    I effing hate doctors offices.

I want to meet the genius who thought scheduling a physical right after a polygraph was a good idea.

    haha, thanks.

I have my "back up" job starting on Tuesday, though. So I can't really be mad, it just looks like I have to put my degree on hold indefinitely because Metro offers squat for evening, weekend and online classes.

You know how many professors SWORE up and down that business were very flexible and "school friendly"? I call B.S. on that.

Oh well... I'm watching my beautiful baby girl eat her dinner, without a care in the world. Life goes on.

    Perspective.
Whenever my wife asks me why I never wear pants around the house I simply remind her:

"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.” - Winston Churchill

    The truth wears NO pants!

At one point she said "you're brainstorming on the theft questions, is there something you need to tell me?" They will almost always pick a question and tell you something like this: it's a way to get you nervous, agitated or angry. They'll grab a handful of papers, walk out for a few minutes 'to review', leave you stewing, come back and throw a concern at you. All the while, you're on candid camera also. When they get back, they hope you're gonna say something new.

A lot of good information included whether or not you have anything to hide.
