I don't solely put the blame on the politicians who award the contracts- part of the blame goes with our "pay as you go" construction system or whatever is the cause for projects to be stretched out. I see it right now in 3 locations within a 1/2 mile of where I live. 1- The West Light Rail- they've been working there for over a year and are still doing shit in the same spot they've been doing for 14+ months! 2/3- The intersection at the end of the 6th Avenue Exit ramp at Simms/Union and just down the street at 4th and Union, they've been on that project for who knows how long and I still have no idea what they're doing. They "fixed" the turn off at 4th and Union, and now they've torn it up again. Huh?

I would think you want to get the job done as fast as possible, get your money and move on to the next job. Or maybe I'm spoiled because I grew up with some friends who own an excavation company in Evergreen that get shit done.

Oh here's one you'll love! Lakewood, water main repair for a 24 foot section under 6in of concrete and 5 feet of dirt... takes 4 months to complete and they had to go back a year later and fix it.

Evergreen. Water main replacement at 16ft, 30 foot section. Takes 3 days of actual work (road closure over the weekend- so 5 days of lane closure)... Expect to be replaced in 20-25 years.
