Default almost hit a motorcycle today

let me preface this by saying i give motorcycle riders a WIDE berth whenever i see them i dont cut you guys off or tailgate or any of the asshole behaviors i see other drivers do.....

so im on platte behind a slow truck i check my mirrors check the rear side window(blind spot) and turn on my signal when i an halfway into my lane i hear tires on the rumble strip and look back to see a VERY angry harley rider giving me the finger on the shoulder pretty much.....well of course we end up side by side at a light and i roll my window down to apologize this fucking nutcase hops off his bike and starts screaming at me trying to get me to fight him just ranting and raving....luckly i was in the right lane and hit a quick right to diffuse the situation....

wtf is wrong with people i would think if you were on a motorcycle(with no helmet on) you wouldnt try to race past the guy in the big heavy car trying to get over into your lane

anyway my adrenalin was through the roof i was shaky for like an hour afterword and i realized then when im in my car having a gun on my waist trapped behind my seatbelt probably wouldnt do me as much good as just taking it off and putting it in the center console or something because if he had pulled out a gun i would have had to un buckle....rotate my fat body to the side then draw theres no way i could have done that fast or smooth

crappy rant i know i know

Gotta give you props. You admitted your mistake, then tried to make it right, and then you deliberatly prevented a violent interaction. We all screw up, but you handled this right. Hat tip.

I'm a life long motorcyclist and if someone doesn't see me and they react accordingly, I just wave. I know sometimes we are hard to see.

Its another case when I'm leaning on the horn and the car keeps coming and the driver is oblivious to me... I'm always good if they wave or something to acknowledge they didn't see me...

But I've been in your shoes. Some dipwad on a bike thought I was tailgating him in my car he flips me off and gets off his bike at the light and starts coming toward me.

To say the least you know where my hand was. I had a curb and tree on the right, cars on the left of me and behind me. Nowhere to go. Fortunately for him he changed his mind and walked back to his bike.

Like I said, I'm a lifelong motorcyclist so I too give bikes a wide berth. Some are just jerks!

I think you handled pretty well. It's hard to deal with all these disrespectful angry drivers now adays. Everyday without fail I encounter a dumbass driver mostly cars but I see a lot of guys on a bike drive pretty stupid and asking for trouble. Anyways I am working on my reactions to these drivers and I am not afraid to wave and say sorry if I am in the wrong. Needless to say some people don't care they just think you are the biggest pos.

I blame the guy on the Harley. Obviously, his pipes weren't loud enough or you would have heard him.

Sounds like you did everything right in this case. I wish the people in the cars and trucks that try to kill me would have the decency to apologize at the next light.

Just for safety sake, I don't sit in the blind spots of anything larger than I am. If you're going to pass, then pass.

When I used to ride, I figured out long ago to stay away from cars as much as possible, just because many times they can't see you, even if they're looking. So I always tried to either get past 'em, or stay way behind. Kept as much room around me as possible. Yet every day I see riders in peoples' blind spots or doing other ignorant things.

And trucks? NFW I'll ride anywhere around or behind a truck. Not only are bikes even harder to see around them, but shit falls off of trucks! This state seems to have the most rocks of all the states, and trucks that have been in muddy construction sites drop rocks and dirt clods like dandruff. Witness all the cracked windshields in this state.

Oh, and never ride near a truck hauling a cattle trailer either. Cows like to piss out those ventilation holes on those trailers!

But yeah, you did good. The guy on the bike probably had a "big bad biker" ego trip going on. But I've also been the pissed off biker, when people have done stupid shit that nearly took me out. Kicked a door or two in my day. But a simple mistake followed by an apology? I'll cool down quick. I understand things happen and bikes are hard to see.

Blame is on the guy. Harley or other manufacturer. I'm a rider who carries and quite frankly people just don't see us even with a exhaust that is as loud as race bikes and a 1000cc bike. Anyone who gets off of their bike to try to screw with someone is a dbag IMHO. You did the right thing. He's lucky he didn't get two in the chest and one in the head.
