You can't submit form 1 paperwork for "Multi" you must "declare" a caliber, and that caliber must appear somewhere on the firearm. In many cases the caliber stamping on the barrel you're using as your "permanent" setup (what you're specifying as caliber, barrel length and overall length on your form 1) is sufficient (that's where I'm bit hazy -- I do not believe the caliber has appear on the receiver along with your name/trust name and city/state -- can anyone confirm?).
However, the barrel's caliber stamping must be completely unobstructed from view -- which means that if the caliber stamping is towards the chamber it'll be covered by the barrel shroud and therefore MUST be engraved somewhere else. If the stamping is towards the muzzle, not underneath the shroud, you're fine.
