Notice the inclusion of the word Extreme

extreme brand of Islam embraced by the militants, officials said Monday.

Is this more media word playing to show us "not all of Islam is bad"
No i agree all of Islam is not bad. Unfortunately it seems only the Religious ones have issues!
    YMMV

While not a fan of Islam, and keeping a very healthy distrust of anything Muslim, I agree, but did meet some wonderful, warm, and hospitable people while over there. Maybe they were smiling to my face while they sharpened the blade to stick in my back?
    But this worries me:
Many Afghans and international observers have expressed worries that the Taliban's brutal interpretation of Islamic justice will return as international forces withdraw.
We pull out, the Taliban moves back in and say hello to yet another humanitarian crisis... and worst of all, they absolutely HATE the shit out of America and the West. My bet will be that they'll start formulating another attack on us, on our own soil. The main issue I have is that they (AQ and the TB) haven't been able to attack us because they're too preoccupied (and have ample American targets) over there. Once the battle for Afghanistan stops, regardless of our stance, they'll start setting up shop again, harboring terrorists, and allowing them to recruit and plan operations that will then be on our turf.
