    Default Yellowstone

    Hey guys,

I'm heading to Yellowstone this weekend to camp and hike but wanted to know your thoughts on a gun(XDm Compact 9mm), bear spray, or a box of grenades?

Most people I've talked to said they've never seen a bear there but after reading some stories I'd rather have something and not need it than crap my pants right before I'm something's dinner.

Disclaimer: Obviously, I do not have a box of grenades.

I took my girlfriend and her son up to Yellowstone this spring. I had bear spray in my pack but I carried everywhere I went too. Four legged animals aren't the only ones I'm concerned with....

It is reported that bear spray is far more effective when dealing with grizzlys than a firearm.

That being said, you wouldnt catch me in that country without my .44 mag.

Don't forget Grand Teton too. My wife and I didn't care formYellowstone because there was way too many people but we really loved Teton.

    1) If you are legal to CCW why not have it with you.
    2) Bear spray will either deter a potential attack, OR season you just enough for the bear to enjoy a good meal (depending on your weight)

    3) grenades are bulky and that space could be used for water.

Go with gun and bear spray. Have a great time and don't forget your camera, you will be kicking yourself later. Don't ask me how i know.

Im going to agree with Jim here and say gun and bear spray and go one step further and advise you to invite someone to go with you or someone you meet up there to tag along as long as you are positive you are faster than they are.
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

Only for residents of WYO. You still need to have a permit. What do you think this is the wild west?

I should've mentioned I'm going with my girlfriend and 3 other people so I won't be alone and I know I'm the fastest out of them if it comes to that haha.

We're leaving tonight and driving to a bit south of Jackson Hole then spending some time in the Tetons before Yellowstone since we can't get our campsite until noon or something.

we saw many bears, where ever there is a rangers truck you will see the bears.

the ones in the park are radio controlled evidently as they all had collars and like I said see a truck follow it it will go to where it wants the bear to be seen.

Outside the park I fished the Shoshone and had a huge boar come out on the opposite side. just make sure you catch enough for both of you or just forfiet yours and go to the store.

Living there for 18 years, yes, I did think it was the wild west. My mistake. Just looked it up and you are absolutely correct.
