I regularly see bears in Yellowstone, but usually do so with plenty of bait - other tourists - between me and the bear. If you are camping in the park, then the handgun would be handy but I'd try the spray first just because there is no reason to kill one unless they are truly aggressive.
And the bears have learned to take away your gun and use it on you.
Don't rent one of the little cabins they've got out there. Just saw some news article about people contracting a deadly virus while staying there. Two campers dead so far.
+1! I love Teton. Yellowstone, meh... you are right, way too many people. But very beautiful nonetheless, both locations. The tourists (somehow Asians love Yellowstone) are just ridiculous... They're everywhere! Can't even see animals without wading through lookieloos.Originally Posted by birddog

If they are, head to Cody and hit the museum, The firearms part is more than worth three times what the trip costs.
