    Default 870 Mag Extension Question?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has used one of these.

I have an 870 Super Mag that I'm considering buying one for. Here is my dilemma. I still like using this gun for geese with 3 1/2" shells so I was kind of thinking about swapping back and fourth between a 20" barrel W/ mag extension or 28" barrel with regular tube.

My question is if I drill the dimples out of the current tube will I be able to convert back to using it without extension? Seems like as long as I can get the spring compressed and the cap started it would work but I'm not completely sure.

Also, looks like I would be into it for ~230. New 7+1 870's run as low as $360. Think I should just bite the bullet and get a new gun?

Well, dont drill out the dimples. You create an opportunity for debris to enter the mag tube. They can be "Massaged" out the majority of the way and hone the remaining irregularities.
The only issue other than the above is the spring retainer and spring will not be captive when you unscrew the mag cap.

So as far as switching back to the standard tube and 28" barrel it should be no problem right. Just a little more hassle with the spring and cap when I assemble it that way.

16mm socket and a small C-clamp will get rid of those pesky dimples without making holes

Just buy the old(orginal) style spring retainer cap from midway or brownells or I'm sure some one on here has one laying around that put on an extension. You can still use the orginal style spring retainer on the new 870's once you remove the dimples.
    Don't be stupid!!!!!
