Im putting this in general discussion so more folks see it.
What is needed on a Garand to make it capable of shooting modern 30-06
ammo, instead of relying on ammo from say CMP etc as sole means of ammo????

But the bottom line is you're bleeding off pressure - it will still never perform like full power hunting loads through a bolt gun. The good news is the '06 has guts to spare.
Best option is handloading.
What are you looking to do with the Garand? Hunt? Service Rifle matches?
I have no deisre to handload. I have 5 kids and they take up too much time to mess with reloading.
I want the rifle for plinking and SHTF, not really looking to hunt with it. I just wanna be able to buy cheap FMJ or SP at any venue that are cheaper than the American Eagle M1 Garand specific rounds.
My T.P. wheeling and dealing feedback is here.

By the way, speaking of Garands, CMP recently sent out a notice that they are putting up for sale a number of over 6 million serial number Service Grade rifles.
$675, I've already ordered one.
I sent my order in the day after receiving the email, so hopefully it got there in time!
