    Default juice fast

So I watched a documentary on netflix called, "fat, sick and nearly dead." It was about an Aussie that was overweight and had some health issues so he went on a 60 day juice fast. He consumed nothing but the juice of misc fruits and veg for 60 days (water also). He ended up losing a crap ton of weight and started reducing his medication for his health issues.

It's basically and detoxing thing. I'm trying it for a few days and I started tonight. Dinner was pretty rough. I tried adding some garlic and ginger thinking I could whip up some super healthy elixir, but it turned out pretty nasty. All I can think about is food. cheese. potatoes. cream of mushroom. anything. sooo starving.

I've gone a few weeks without gluten and that was pretty rough, but I think this will be worse. I'm shooting for a few days, but i'll go for longer if I start feeling better.

Anyone try anything like this? One of the signs/symptoms that a health guide gave as a reason to stop the juice fast was.....HUNGER.

Hopefully I don't rip someones head off at work tomorrow.

We have a student at kung fu that is around 400 lbs. He has also seen the movie and has started doing it. He is not using a juicer, but a blender, so he's making smoothies instead of juicing. But he's already lost something like 18 lbs in his first week! Keep it up. The main thing I've heard is that you feel like an absolute trainwreck for the first few days. Those are the ones you need determination to push through. Then you should start to feel much healthier with more time.

Tried it a while back but the mundane diet killed me. It was he same meal, same texture, same taste, same same same. I lasted ~ 4 days.

Think if I was going to do it again I would have a regular dinner with juice throughout the day. That way you would at least have something to look forward to. I felt good on it and still try to mix juices in during the day from time to time. It is definitely a great way to get veggies in.

Oh and if you do it for any regularity you will poo like never before. I hear you grow out of it but it was a pretty busy time for my toilet.

Green smoothies. Look it up. Now. Seriously. GO!

My fiancee got into them a while back and ended up destroying my blender, so I bought her a new Ninja (fantastic blender by the way!) and she used to drink one of these everyday. Now, she drinks one over 2 days (both for breakfast), because she runs out of time drinking all of it.

    Her recipe is roughly this:

    1 cup water
1/2 cup oatmeal (depending on when she can eat next)
    1 banana
    1 carrot
    1 apple
2 cutie mandarins (when in season)
    1 tbsp milled flax seed
1-2 handfuls of frozen strawberries (roughly 1-2cups in actuality)
1/2 to 1 FULL head of romaine lettuce!

Blend it all up, and it makes around 50oz of smoothie. The taste isn't all that bad, and if it is, add some more strawberries. It is very filling and doing this, you can eat more lettuce than otherwise possible. Also, you can use fruits/veggies that are going bad and it doesn't matter. Half of the time the lettuce she uses is starting to go brown and is no longer crispy. Most people would throw it out, but throw it into a blender and you still get all of the nutrients and antioxidants.

Anyways, if you want to learn more, there are tons of websites out there for green smoothies They not only help you lose weight and eat less junk food, you get a ton of nutrients that most people don't get.

we bought a juicer on craigslist. I think he may see more benefit without all the fiber and such. As I understand it, you want your digestive system to just relax and not have to work. I don't really know. I'm just gonna go to bed now and feel sorry for myself.

Juicers come up pretty often on craigslist. I'm assuming most people want to try it but don't have enough will power to get through. I admit, i've thought about putting the thing up for sale and we picked it up this weekend....lol

I'll update with some more info and hopefully, weight loss stats, as they become available.

I'm around 240 lbs. so i'm not trying to lose too much, but getting back down to 200 would be pretty amazing.

dinner was: 3 carrots, 1 apple, 1 orange, 1 beet, 1/2 zucchini, 2 garlic cloves, nugget sized chunk of ginger, some watercress greens, 1/2 cup watermelon and 2 stalks of celery. produced 900 ml of juice of which i drank about half. couldn't take anymore.

The first 3 or 4 days is rough. It gets easier after that.

Did it but it an unrealistic diet. You lose weight but getting your eating habits correct is more important. I did lose weight but I also gained it back...

I did Nutrisystems a couple months ago and went from 211 to 195 in about a month. More realistic and get's your eating habits in check, gives you a better idea of how you should eat, and balances blood sugar which is the most important.

I had good luck with an all-protein diet once. Absolutely no carbs. (too bad I like beer so much). This diet sounds like all carbs, which can lead to insulin resistance, blah, blah, blah,.... but it's certainly hard to argue with the results that have been posted. Props to anybody who can stick with something like that. if it works for you, great! All it would take for me to fail is the aroma of a neighbor's BBQ, and I'd fall off the juice wagon, and into a big NY strip!

When I was going to church, the senior pastor would do juice fasting for 3 weeks/yr.

I've been wanting to try it but haven't had the willpower (and no juicer).

If your goal is losing weight, I'd look into the low-carb thing. "Atkins" is the big name for it, but any low carb diet will work fine. And by "diet" I don't mean starving yourself or getting into the "buy our supplements every month" bullshit. Don't let the name scare you into "it's a fad diet thing". It's not at all.

It just makes sense when you know the facts. My Doc is 100% behind me and things look good so far as blood work (cholesterol: the bad kind went down, the good kind went up - that was a major concern for me). I'm excited to see what the full year checkup will show in January.

I'm down 50 lbs since December 27th and it was a piece of cake for me (ok, the first 2 weeks were a bit rough). By the way, I've never bought a supplement or "weight loss product". PM if you want any info.

Also, I did the "Master Cleanse" a few years ago. I went 30 days and it sure cleansed the hell out of me, that's for sure (!!!), but I would not recommend that to most folks. Pretty hard core - and I'm not sure how healthy that really is. Probably not very healthy, but damn the stuff that came out of me.........
