Fasting for 30 days plus is perfectly healthy if done right. Most of us faced enough body far stores to feed our bodies that long. Once your body starts metabolizing the stored body fat your blood sugar will balanced out, and in most cases your cholesterol wool drop to normal levels too. It is important to keep using your body, read exercising during the process or you will loses muscle. A buddy of mine would do this for 30-40 days at a time, with his Dr. monitoring everything weekly. They checked blood suffers, cholesterol, muscle mass every week. He did both juice and water fasts that way. The longest I went was 30 days.

It's a short term solution. It's simply an extreme form of calorie restriction, though I'll grant that the calories consumed are at least good calories.

The results of any crash diet are nearly always the same. You'll lose muscle and fat at about the same rate. When you go off the diet you'll have that much less muscle mass to burn calories. Expect to gain it all back and have it harder to lose the next time

    Ask me how I know.

Fat runs rampant in my family. My sister and I have licked it after 30 years of working at it, and our answer has been lifestyle change. It works and it lasts. My sis lost 100 pounds 3 years ago and has kept off every ounce. I lost 40 and am very fit for an old guy.

Balanced diet, moderate calorie restriction, and exercise is the long term solution. if you want a plan that's proven to work, try "Body for Life".

As noted before me, it's not for everyone, and it's not a miracle plan. It still takes willpower and exercise.

I'm juicing now, under my Doctor's supervision, but the fast is just to do a "system reset" and get started weight loss, and has to be combined with diet and lifestyle changes to make a long-term difference.

There's certainly nothing wrong with juicing for a week or 10 days, maybe every three to six months, or add daily juicing to your meal plan instead of as a calorie-restricting fast to make sure you're getting your vitamins and nutrients.

You can pick up a decent centrifugal juicer for $60 or so on Amazon, and unless you're a fanatic about it or opening a commercial juice bar, there's not really a need for anything heavier duty (i.e. expensive).

I cut 20 pounds in two weeks by only eating clean calories(1200-1500) per day, I also exercised a minimum of 1 hour up to 3 hours per day. This is not a long term solution but you have to get to your target weight and maintain it somehow. If you have a smart phone or tablet I recommend the ap myfitnesspal as an accountabilibuddy... Good luck!

Didn't rip any heads off at work today, but I sure am hungry. I'm planning on just doing this for a few days, not just for the weight loss, but for the detoxing. It sure does make me appreciate food, and I doubt i'll be stuffing my face with too much crap after this since i'd rather not partake of this joyous event too often.

I know a guy who was talked into turning vegan, and he is now off of his blood pressure meds that he was previously told he'd have to take for the rest of his life.

I know a second person who has beat cancer TWICE through her diet, with ZERO chemo.

My wife and I are following the Eat to Live way of eating. Dr Furmman, who was the main doc in the documentary, is the one who came up with it and tweeks it for certain people. Working pretty good so far, loosing some weight anyway.

I'll stay paleo. I love meat too much and losing an average of 10 lbs a month without drinking my calories is pretty damn nice.
