A hunting license is not a trespassing license.

I just took the hunter's safety course earlier this year. Anyone that wants to hunt on private land must obtain the landowner's prior, written permission. No, he can't just scale your fence without you saying it's OK.

    Default Signs

Most signs I see in the mountains have bullet holes in them...

Out of curiousity, if he would have asked instead of trespassing, would you have let him hunt on your land? Just general curiousity really, as a hunter I certainly respect private property and don't look down on those that wish to keep it so. I've seen plenty of "Hunting by permission only" signs and sometimes even a phone number for contact.

As was stated, he should know better than to just climb over your fence/gate, etc., but sadly its due to people like that, the rest of us ethical hunters have to suffer for.

Also a sign I'll be hanging on my property soon is a variation on the "trespassers will be shot, survivors shot again" theme.

Read: "Trespassers will be shot by trained sniper. There will BE NO SURVIVORS." And in a lower part, think I'll add: "Welcome to the mountains, where NO ONE will EVER find your remains".

i dont know i have seen A LOT of irresponsible people with guns enough that i would feel iffy about a couple of guys that i dont know and have never shot with shooting them on my property......suppose my house ends up being a backstop because someone is antsy pantsy and is "sure" he can make the shot....it makes me nervo.... also what kind of liability do i have if someone shoots themselves or someone else on my property? i sure dont want to get sued if someone hurts themselves

Do you have any good game animals that are on your property at all? I'm just wondering if it would be worth while to let hunting happen...

Unfortunately the irresponsibility of hunters like there give the rest of us a bad rap. Chase them off and put up no huntin' signs, also the universal color code is purple. So if you paint the tops of random fence post purple peopleshould know not to hunt there. Good luck.
